UK April manufacturing PMI unexpectedly dives into contraction
|By FXStreet The manufacturing sector activity in the UK deteriorated at the start of the second quarter, surprising markets to the downside, readings from Markit showed on Tuesday.
The Markit/CIPS manufacturing PMI index for the British economy unexpectedly weakened to 49.2 in April, falling to the lowest level since February 2013 at Q2 start. The April figure was below revised figure of 50.7 in March, and came in much weaker than a 51.3 reading estimated by markets.
