Key events; eyes on China – Westpac

By FXStreet FXStreet (Guatemala) – Sean Callow, analyst at Westpac Banking Corporation noted that Tokyo enjoys its third holiday of the week, today joined by much of the Middle East for Yom Kippur and Eid Al-adha but non-Japan Asian markets are all listed as open but offered key events ahead.

“China Sep Caixin/Markit flash manufacturing PMI will be released at 11:45am Syd/9:45am local. Consensus is for another weak print at 47.5 after last month’s 47.3. The Aug number was the weakest since Mar 2009. Singapore Aug CPI is expected at -0.6% y/y. Inflation has been in the negative since Nov 2014, and the MAS is meeting next month. The median forecast for Taiwan Aug industrial production is -2.9% y/y. There will be more attention on the release than usual given the uncertainty around the CBC Taipei policy decision tomorrow.

We also see the advance European Sep PMIs, with the French and German numbers released before Eurozone figures. ECB president Draghi holds a quarterly hearing before a European Parliament committee. Atlanta Fed’s Lockhart speaks yet again on the economy. Canada Jul retail sales are also due.”
